Alliteration abounds

Presented for your pleasure, Midnight Marsala Mushrooms and Ayo's Cold Remedy.

Funny story about the reason I call it Midnight Marsala Mushrooms. I used to just call it marsala mushrooms, what have you. But at my last job, the night of my birthday, we got out an hour late and I didn't get home til past eleven pm.

I could have killed someone, but instead, I decided to make my birthday dinner regardless. So just barely before the 23rd of October ended, I made myself my favorite food.

Midnight Marsala Mushrooms

No matter what anyone might claim, marsala mushrooms-- which is basically chicken marsala without the chicken-- is hella easy.

16oz sliced, washed mushrooms
1/2 cup vegan chicken broth
3/4-1 cup marsala wine
3 tbs butter
Freshly ground black pepper
8oz pasta -- egg noodles are best, but angelhair is also excellent

This one's actually from 10/22/12!
Set the water to boil for the pasta, then cook the pasta. Sauté the mushrooms in the butter for about five minutes, stirring frequently. Pour on the other liquids and the pepper. Let it simmer until most of the liquid is absorbed. Bon appetit!

How many meals will it make?: 2, with these proportions. It's fairly easy to adjust.

I wasn't feeling fancy today, so I nuked some peas and seasoned them with salt and pepper. Fun fact: to microwave frozen peas, undercook them; don't overcook them. If they are slightly undercooked, they will taste crisp and pop when you bite into them, almost like they're garden fresh. If they are overcooked, they will be wrinkled and dry and make you gag.

Ayo's Cold Remedy

My coworker Ayo told me about this mixture when I was complaining about my sore throat and cough. And it did make both go away while I was working, fortunately. I also find it tasty, so I thought I would share. Be warned: you must like lemons.

Ingredients necessary:

1 lemon
1 tbs honey
Hot water

Step one: Cut off the ends of the lemon, cut once length-wise, then slice the lemon into thin wedges.

Step two: Squeeze a lemon wedge into a cup and add the tablespoon of honey.

Step three: Pour boiling water over the mixture. Stir WELL, as the honey can be difficult. Then let it sit for two or three minutes to steep. Tastes good cold as well as hot.
